Redcar Literary Institute

The Redcar Literary Institute in Lord Street – “The Lit” – was founded in 1896 by landowners for the education of locals and to provide them with games and meeting rooms. Today, the aims remain roughly the same, but committee members feel not enough people are aware it exists, tucked away behind Iceland. A few groups already use it, including a chess club, war games, adventurers and dancing classes.
